A Valentine’s Day episode of *Wheel of Fortune* sparked heavy controversy after contestant Conner Kemmsies, a commercial pilot, lost a $40,000 bonus round. The frustration from viewers centered on the final puzzle’s solution, “I DID MY HOMEWORK,” which many argued was unfair for the “Phrase” category. Critics felt the answer was merely a plain, specific statement rather than a recognizable expression, making it nearly impossible to solve under tight studio pressure.

The loss was particularly stinging because Conner’s family was cheering from the audience, and the missed solve cost him a significant cash prize. The emotional contrast of a frustrating loss during a festive holiday broadcast sharpened the audience’s backlash. Additionally, some longtime fans expressed annoyance that the bonus wheel landed on the $40,000 minimum space, fueling separate complaints about the predictability of the game’s recent prize outcomes.

The online debate quickly shifted from a single missed answer to a broader discussion about the show’s fairness and puzzle design. Loyal viewers argued that while difficult puzzles are part of the game, categories must remain grounded in intuitive wordplay rather than arbitrary sentences. If a category feels too broad or vague, the challenge begins to feel more like random luck than actual skill.

Ultimately, the episode became a symbol of growing viewer scrutiny regarding whether the iconic game show is leaning into manufactured drama. Fans want the tension of a difficult challenge, but they also want to feel that contestants are given a genuine path to victory. The lingering frustration over the phrase highlighted how deeply invested the audience remains in the integrity and classic format of the show.
