In April 1972, Apollo 16 astronaut Charles Duke carried a photo of his wife Dorothy and their two young children, Charles and Thomas, to the Moon. During his third lunar walk, he placed the photograph on the surface under a protective cover and wrote a message on the back identifying his family as being from Earth.
