Five-year-old Elis Lima Carneiro, from Boa Vista, Brazil, has died after living with Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome, an extremely rare genetic condition that causes accelerated aging. Elis and her twin sister Eloá were believed to be the only twins in the world with the disease, and their story gained widespread attention through social media, where more than a million people followed their childhood moments. Elis’s family announced her death on September 30, and she was buried on October 1.
