Brazilian businessman and culinary figure Lito Sousa was diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in late August 2026, an extremely rare and rapidly progressing neurodegenerative disorder caused by abnormal proteins called prions. Knowing the disease could leave him with only weeks or months, he recorded a video about his uncertainty, but his condition deteriorated quickly, and his family confirmed his death on October 1, 2026, at age 59.
