Scottish singer Alex Ligertwood, best known as a prominent vocalist for Santana, has died peacefully in his sleep at age 79 in Los Angeles. His final moments were spent alongside his loyal dog, Bobo.
During his 15 years with Santana, Ligertwood’s powerful voice defined hit tracks like “Winning,” “Hold On,” and “All I Ever Wanted”. Beyond Santana, he showcased his musical versatility through collaborations with Jeff Beck, Brian Auger, and the Average White Band.
A dedicated performer to the end, Ligertwood sang his final show just two weeks before his death. Offstage, he was remembered by those who knew him for his warmth, humor, and humility.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Shawn Brogan, who remembered him as being “all heart and soul”. Though Ligertwood has passed, his rich musical legacy continues through his timeless recordings.
