In June 2024, residents of Reddypuram Kovelakunta village in Telangana, India, spotted a motionless body floating in a local pond for five hours and called the police, assuming the man had drowned. When officers arrived around noon and began dragging the supposed corpse out of the water, the man suddenly opened his eyes, coughed, and sat up, shocking the crowd and startling the police. It turned out he was a granite quarry worker from Kavali who, thoroughly exhausted after working ten consecutive days under the scorching sun, had slipped into the pond to cool off and accidentally fell asleep floating on his back.
