After the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq, several of Saddam Hussein’s lavish palaces were seized and turned into military headquarters, offering troops a striking glimpse into the dictator’s extravagant world. His Tikrit palace complex, filled with marble halls, pools and hundreds of rooms, was later returned to Iraqi control but was heavily looted. Today, some of these former palaces remain powerful reminders of Saddam’s rule, the Iraq War and the violence that followed.
