Mary and Brad Kish were overjoyed when their daughter Michelle was born in Illinois in the late 1990s. But doctors quickly noticed that something was different.
After genetic testing, Michelle was diagnosed with Hallermann-Streiff syndrome, an extremely rare condition. Her family was told that only a small number of cases had ever been documented worldwide.
Growing up, Michelle faced many challenges, including dwarfism, hearing and vision difficulties, and the need for specialized medical equipment. Despite these obstacles, her mother described her as incredibly bright, joyful, and determined.
The most remarkable part of Michelle’s story is her attitude toward life. Despite living with a condition that affects almost every part of her daily life, she continues to dream about the future, including becoming a doctor and experiencing the same milestones as other young women.
