Ted Bundy was born in 1946 in Burlington, Vermont, and grew up under a complicated family secret, initially believing his mother was his sister; despite appearing polite and ordinary, his later life revealed a deeply disturbing pattern of crimes against women. He was arrested in 1975, eventually convicted of multiple murders, and confessed to killing 30 women, although investigators believed the true number may have been higher. After receiving death sentences in Florida, Bundy was executed on January 24, 1989. His case remains notorious because of the stark contrast between his outwardly respectable image and the crimes he committed.
