Purpose of the Circular Dent on Milk Jugs

That small circular indentation on the side of a plastic milk jug is actually an important part of its design: it gives the thin plastic wall flexibility to handle pressure and temperature changes, while also helping absorb bumps and impacts during transportation. The molded shape adds strength without requiring extra plastic, making the jug lighter and more efficient to produce and transport. In some cases, if the circle bulges outward noticeably, it can indicate increased pressure inside the container, although that alone does **not** prove the milk has spoiled. So, what looks like a random dent is actually a simple piece of packaging engineering designed to make the jug stronger, safer, and more economical.
