How Audie Murphy Went From Fending Off 200 Nazis By Himself To Becoming A Hollywood Star

Audie Murphy rose from poverty in Texas to become one of America’s most decorated World War II soldiers after his extraordinary bravery at Holtzwihr, France, in January 1945 earned him the Medal of Honor. After the war, Murphy became a successful Hollywood actor, appearing in more than 40 films, including *To Hell and Back*, based on his life. Despite his fame, he struggled with the lasting effects of combat and financial problems, and his remarkable life ended tragically on May 28, 1971, when the 45-year-old was killed in a plane crash in Virginia.
