Heinz faced backlash after a widely shared video appeared to show rotten tomatoes being dumped into an outdoor vat at its factory near Cairo, Egypt, sparking concerns about the quality of its ketchup. Heinz Egypt acknowledged that the footage was filmed at its facility but called the edited video “misleading and inaccurate,” insisting that only healthy tomatoes are used and that strict cleanliness and safety standards are followed. Heinz UK also defended the company, saying the footage does not truthfully represent its manufacturing process, while concerned customers called for greater transparency and a full look at how the ketchup is produced.
