At just 3 years old, Joey underwent open-heart surgery at Leeds Children’s Hospital in England to treat supravalvular aortic stenosis, leaving him with a six-inch scar on his chest. When Joey asked his dad, Martin Watts, if that was where doctors had cut him to fix his heart, Martin decided to get a matching tattoo in the same place and size—not to hide the scar, but to help his son see it as a symbol of courage and everything he had overcome. The family later joined the hospital’s #ScarSelfie campaign to encourage others to embrace their surgery scars, especially as Joey’s sibling Harley had also been diagnosed with the same condition….
