I Had No Idea He’d Been Carrying These Feelings All Along… See more

Frustrated by Hollywood’s financing hurdles and studio edits, actor John Cusack shifted away from traditional filmmaking to find complete creative freedom. His long career in iconic movies like *High Fidelity* left him disillusioned with an industry he came to view as overly transactional and restrictive.

Cusack turned to comic books to regain full control over his storytelling, releasing his debut graphic novel, *Momo*. Illustrated by Ignacio Noé, the project combines crime, science fiction, and political satire without requiring multimillion-dollar budgets or studio approval.

The graphic novel format allowed Cusack to think cinematically while avoiding executive interference and audience test-focus groups. By working directly with a single artist, he ensured the final narrative matched his original vision without compromises in the editing room.

Cusack’s move mirrors a broader family shift toward independence, shared by his sister Joan, who also stepped back from Hollywood routines to prioritize personal life. Ultimately, *Momo* represents a fresh chapter for Cusack, prioritizing artistic ownership over major studio productions.
