A family vacation in Limerick, Maine, ended in tragedy in June 2024 when a badminton racket used by 10-year-old Silas Morgan broke apart, sending a detached metal shaft into the head of his 6-year-old sister, Lucy. She suffered catastrophic brain injuries, underwent emergency surgery at Maine Medical Center, and died four days later. Her parents, Jesse and Bethany Morgan, have since filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Franklin Sports, alleging the racket had a defective connection and inadequate safety warnings, turning a simple family game into a devastating loss.
