A family in Fort Bend County, Texas, and their farm animals are safe after their pet goose alerted them to a barn fire on Tuesday, Aug. 4. Security footage captured the 4-month-old goose, named Goosey, repeatedly honking outside the burning barn like an alarm.
The loud squawking woke up Bert Gerber, who was sleeping inside the house. Upon stepping outside, Gerber spotted flames billowing from the barn, grabbed a water hose, and managed to extinguish the fire before it spread out of control.
All of the family’s animals—including chickens, turkeys, and roosters—escaped unharmed. Bert’s wife, Chelsea, noted that the fire could have been catastrophic had the honking not woken him up in time.
