8-Year-Old Passes Away In Freak Accident While Playing In Backyard Only Feet Away From Her Family

Eight-year-old Kinslee Tschida died after being struck by lightning in her backyard in rural Illinois on July 3, moments after her family had told her and her cousins to leave the swing and head inside because of approaching weather. Her relatives immediately performed CPR and rushed her to OSF St. Elizabeth Hospital, but doctors could not save her. Her family remembers Kinslee as a joyful child who loved singing, dancing and making others smile, while authorities completed an autopsy and continued testing to confirm the exact cause of death. The heartbreaking incident has left her family and community grieving and serves as a tragic reminder of how quickly lightning can become deadly.
