Finding something unusual in your sofa can be alarming, but it does not necessarily mean you have a pest problem. Small insects, larvae, seeds, fabric fibers and ordinary household debris can sometimes look surprisingly similar. Before assuming the worst, it is important to look closely at the object’s size, shape, color and whether it moves.

Some common possibilities include bed bugs, carpet beetle larvae, cockroach nymphs or spider egg sacs. If you suspect bed bugs, look for additional signs such as tiny dark spots, shed skins, small white eggs or other insects around the sofa. Finding several similar objects rather than just one may also be worth investigating further.

Start by checking underneath and between the cushions, along seams and zippers, beneath the sofa and around nearby carpets and baseboards. Look carefully for additional insects, eggs or dark spotting. Taking a clear close-up photograph with a coin or ruler beside the object can also make identification much easier.

If you think you may have found bed bugs, avoid immediately spraying random insecticides, as improper treatment can sometimes make the problem harder to control. Instead, vacuum the area thoroughly, wash removable fabrics when appropriate and consider contacting a licensed pest-control professional if you continue finding signs.READ BELOW
