Nature is always full of surprises, and just when you think you’ve seen it all, a pair of seagulls pull a stunt that leaves everyone speechless. A recent viral moment captured a seagull flying through an overcast sky, but it wasn’t alone—not even in the way you would think. Perched directly on its back was another live seagull, happily hitching a ride!
As shown in the left panel of the image, from a distance, the scene looks like a singular, unusually shaped bird near a weathered rooftop. But when you look closer (and as shown in the zoomed-in right panel), the unmistakable silhouette of a second bird is clearly resting on the first one’s back. The bottom bird is doing all the heavy lifting, its wings spread wide to maintain flight.
The internet immediately erupted with theories and jokes. Was this the birth of ‘UberGull’? Or perhaps the bottom bird lost a bet? In reality, behavior like this in birds is very rare and often hard to interpret. It can sometimes be a form of aerial play, an unusually assertive courtship behavior, or even a split-second conflict resolution that looks much friendlier than it was.

Regardless of the scientific reason, the visual is undeniably hilarious and captivating. It reminds us that even ordinary urban wildlife can pull off extraordinary (and funny) feats. We may never know exactly what they were thinking, but this ‘Gull-on-Gull’ action is a reminder to always keep an eye on the sky—you never know what you’ll catch!
